Speaker Profile: Stijn Stabel

The next technological revolution is not a sprint - more like a triathlon.

As CTO at Carrefour Belgium, Stijn Stabel works together with C-level peers to provide a critical perspective and guidance on the IT domain. In his role, Stabel aims to simplify and smoothen technology’s implementation in physical, digital, and biological worlds.

After finishing his Bachelor in Technology at Catholic University Leuven, Stijn Stabel joined Huntsman Europe to be their Corporate International Audit Manager. Stabel planned a complete and wide variety of IT audit programs, such as the development of Continuous Audit and Continuous Control Monitoring processes, Due Diligence integration, and multiple data analytics frameworks. After gaining 10 years of work experience at Huntsman, he left the company for Alcopa. Here, he started as Head of Architecture and Innovation and grew all the way to CTO. As head of application management, Stabel directed an enterprise-wide IT governance approach to present the company with an optimal application efficiency benchmark while integrating business and IT divisions. In 2019, he joined Carrefour Belgium as their CTO. Here he directs and supports the second biggest supermarket chain globally. Leading its digital transformation is his new passion.

Another passion of Stabel? Triathlons. In a 2015 newspaper, he mentioned that he wakes up between 4 and 5 AM to do his daily training routine before going to work. Coached by a personal trainer who also coached road cyclist Wout van Aert from Team Jumbo-Visma, Stabel showed supreme progress. With only 3 years of experience, Stabel finished fifteenth out of 2000 in the 2016 Malaysia triathlon, placing himself for the World Championships.

We are happy to announce that Stijn Stabel will initiate our group discussion during the Roundtable. He’s an expert in approaching a digital transformation as a triathlon, so don’t hesitate to discuss the challenges you’re experiencing!
