Dear ,

We look forward to welcoming you at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden on April 5th. During this morning, various speakers will share their vision on the central theme: energy from, for, and by the Netherlands of 2064.

Imagine, 40 years ahead. What will the Netherlands look like? Is energy sustainable and affordable? Has biodiversity increased? Has the energy transition been achieved? What is life like in and above the sea? Is the Netherlands energy independent? And how do we reflect on the choices we make today?

Break-out sessions

What steps are needed to ensure that everyone benefits from the sustainable energy generated? What opportunities and obstacles does the Netherlands? We will discuss this with Erwin Coolen (Director of ECHT), Rob Smit (VP Hydrogen at Statkraft), and Mark Bouwman (Head of Project Development at Groendus).

The Netherlands would benefit from a stable energy supply, independent of political developments in the rest of the world and less reliant on the power grid. Why is this so important? Together with Jan Vos (Chairman of NWEA), Louise van Schaik (Head of EU & Global Affairs and Senior Research Fellow at Clingendael), and Siward Zomer (Chairman of ONS), we will examine this from both an international and a national perspective.

How do different generations view energy in the Netherlands of 2064? Francine Hijmans (Head of Communication and Partnerships at Naturalis Biodiversity Center) discusses several dilemmas with Dieuwertje Wallaart (Vice Chairman and Board Member of Government and Politics at the Youth Climate Movement) and Vincent van den Bergen (Member of Grandparents for the Climate).

What if ecosystems had a voice? Milan Meyberg demonstrates how this becomes reality with the help of AI. Milan takes us into a future world where nature has a voice, enabling ecosystems to represent and protect themselves.
