Differentiation when it comes to security

Most CIO’s have security as one of their top priorities on their agenda. Delivering a safe and protected digital environment is a complex task because new possibilities and threats are developing at high speed. So; how do you keep up? Google Cloud offers best-in-class security that help our clients protect their most valuable data.

By choosing Google Cloud as a technology partner you simultaneously choose a security partner. At Google, security is a top priority, and we work tirelessly to protect our customers’ data. The Google Cloud end-to-end security model is designed to keep your business and your data secure and compliant through our private network, our automatic processes, our transparency, and our global standards.

Our private network
First, Google Cloud has the largest privately owned network in the world, reducing risks posed by the public internet. Google Cloud has more than 100,000 miles of fiber optic cable - twice the size of AWS and Azure’s networks - in which we have invested $30.9bn in the last three years.

Google Private Network

This allows us to protect more because we see more. According to the numbers: more than 25% of all internet traffic travels on the Google network, 694,000 web pages are scanned for malicious intent every minute, more than 400 million Android devices are checked for health every day, we defend more than 1 billion Gmail and Chrome accounts and 100% of customer data stored at rest is encrypted by default.

Sensitive data detection
Second, Google Cloud is secure by default. It automatically redacts sensitive data with more than 90 predefined detectors. Google Cloud provides fast, scalable classification and redaction for sensitive data elements such as credit card numbers, names, social security numbers, phone numbers and GCP credentials.

Detectors are used to identify patterns, formats, checksums and even to understand contextual clues. Optionally, Google Cloud can protect data using techniques such as masking, secure hashing, tokenization, bucketing and format-preserving encryption.

Real transparency
Third, Google Cloud offers real transparency. Only Google Cloud offers near real-time visibility and approvals for access to sensitive data.Transparency also works in a different direction; we are open and transparent about our own approach to security and processes in order to give you a clear understanding of how Google works and earn your trust.

We explain our approach to security by providing detailed documentation for our suite of products and services. In addition, we process your data only according to our data protection agreements. This means that you control how your business’s data is used. We provide deletion commitments, as well as transparency on subprocessing by vendors, such as support services. Last, we clearly outline our policies on government requests. In transparency reports we share our insights about how the policies and actions of governments and corporations affect privacy, security and access to information. We also detail our process for responding to government requests in public white papers.

Global standards
Last, Google Cloud is compliant with all relevant global standards. Google’s products regularly undergo independent verification of security, privacy and compliance controls, achieving certifications against global standards to earn your trust. Google Cloud certification include:

  • ISO 27001/27017/27018
  • SOC 1/2/3
  • FedRAMP
  • PCI DSS
  • EU privacy regulations
